I seriously doubt stereoscopy could cause any permanent damage. I’ve heard of disparity between senses causing nausea, and 3D projection certainly causes headaches. Pain in the eyes for 24 hours, however, seems to be on a completely different level. If you end up asking a doctor about it I’d like to hear what you find out.
